It's The Backlash, Stupid

Around 3 a.m. I got up to smoke a cigarette and my dad was online. His college now allows teachers and department heads to put up their own mini websites, using forms like Live Journal.

So, it was time for a basic HTML lesson. It turns out the older generation has difficulty grasping the concept that if you start bolding something you better backslash bold it later on if you don't want bold to be your new font.

He's also co-teaching a new class he's proud of. It's literature of 18th and 19th century America. He's teaching it with a Mexican-American woman. She's going to teach the literature of non whites at the time and he's going to teach the traditional stuff.

This is because he's decided he's tired of 20th and 21st century lit.

"It's just about playing with form and showing that I can be more clever than you," he said.

"Well..." Drunk Ex Pat Writer responded, "Eugene O'Neil, Hemmingway and Norman Mailer are pretty interesting."

"They are college students," my dad retorted. "They already understand drinking."

I really had no respone to that.
