I think we have one and it's a sea change that has been building up for years.
We are finally past the era of political correctness that got ushered in by what Billy Joe Armstrong calls "The Bastards of 1969."
All that bullshit about trying to be "understanding" when someone was clearly being a prick is out the window. The idea that you could try to "see the other side" of someone who has ideas completely contrary to your own is a thing of the past.
People getting drunk and stoned all the time and then making fake apologies and talking about demons - that ain't going to happen anymore. (In fact, the entire point of Keith Richard's autobiography, "Life" was for him to say "No, I didn't use drugs because I had a shitty childhood. I became a junkie because drugs are fucking fun.")
Instead, I think we are in the era of brutal outspoken honesty. People are not only willing to say "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore" - they get respect for saying it.
And that's a good thing. It's going to be painful, but it will bring a lot more honesty into the discourse. We won't always like what we hear, but we'll be comfortable saying "Fuck you!" in response.
For decades that wasn't the thing to do. If you hated black people the Zeitgeist pressured you into never saying the word "Nigger" - even if that's the word you thought to yourself.
The Bastards of 1969 created a whole list of ideas that were completely forbidden to be discussed in public - and because nobody heard them, we all pretended these ideas didn't exist.
But, they did. They lingered. If anything they festered. Racism, sexism, homophobia, etc... all became worse, because they were driven underground. While we were all sitting around learning to use words like "cis" and "African American" people were still thinking "chick with dick" and "coon."
The new Zeitgeist won't allow that anymore. Instead it's knives on the table and the time for bullshit is over.
All of us are mad as hell. None of us are going to take it anymore.
They used to call us "Generation X."
Now, we are about to become "Generation Fuck Off And Die, Motherfucker!"
Right or wrong, we will be heard.
