Writer's Block: Pet central

Some animal rights activists are fighting to replace the term 'owner' with 'guardian' to convey a more balanced relationship between a person and her or his pet. Do you agree or disagree with the importance of this mission?

Really???? We have two unwinnable wars going on, a nation that is divided by deep ideological issues, Iran and North Korea are trying to get nuclear weapons, rape victims have trouble getting abortions, volcanoes are shutting down air travel and if you've sucked one cock in your life you are deemed too immoral to shoot people in the head in desert countries thousands and thousands of miles away - and this is what people have time to spend money on and whine about?

Do you think your dog or cat or gilla monster gives a shit what you call him? How fucking self centered and masturbatory is this shit.

Fuck you all.

Clay

So I recently finished rereading Less Than Zero and it's one of these books that is still haunting my brain a few days later.

It's such a better story than the movie, even though there is really nobody for the reader to connect with.

The thing that stuck in my mind the most is the way Clay keeps getting obsessed with the phrases "Disappear here." "People are afraid to merge on the freeways of Los Angeles." and "I wonder if he's for sale."

I also think it's interesting when Clay finally tells himself that he "wants to see the worst" even though when confronted he always turns away. He's not even successful at being a nihilist.

When Blair finally tells him that he's not really there and doesn't even pretend, it's hard to argue with her, but it's also clear that she's not really there and doesn't care either.

His sisters are almost feral and I love how everything just sorta flows into everything else without a real story to guide you. You just get pulled along on the vague hope that these people will gain some insight.

It's one of the best examples of how writers should "show, not tell" that I've ever read.

I'm curious as to what he'll do with these characters when the sequel Imperial Bedrooms comes out next month.

My hope is they'll have to interact with the Paris Hiltons of the world and see both where they came from and where they are going. Blair or Julian getting high with Lohan would also be interesting.
