Lost

The sideways stories suck balls. Even when they are about Desmond.

Can we please just fucking move the plot along?

When Is A Band Still A Band?

On Jimmy Kimmell last night John Lyndon notes that over the years there have been 37 different people in PIL.

Given that the band is usually a trio, though sometimes a quartet, is it really fair to call in PIL these days? I mean, in what way is it the same band?

The true can, obviously be said about Guns N. Roses. I'm not sure quite how many people Axl has gone through over the years, but I do know that he's the only one left from the Appetite For Destruction days, so is it fair to call it Guns N Roses?

On the other hand Velvet Revolver has the vast majority of ex Guns N Roses dude in it (i.e. the ones who are still capable of standing up) yet I don't think it would be fair to call Velvet Revolver Guns N Roses.

Then consider Genesis. Pick a random year, pick a random line up. Same with Yes. Pink Floyd feels comfortable calling themselves Pink Floyed even though Roger Waters who wrote almost all of the good songs (that they still play) left years and years ago.

The Who exists with only their singer and guitarist left (though to be fair, since Pete wrote everything they probably have more of a right to their original name than most bands.)

By some standards if Paul and Ringo decided to tour together they could call themselves The Beatles if they wanted to.

So, where do you draw the line?

When is a band still a band and when do they become a new band?

Odd

I forgot to take my Not Go Crazy Pills earlier.

I realized this when I noticed I kept muttering "Everything's eventual. Everything's eventual" over and over again under my breath.

I wonder where in my subconscious that came from?

Rest In Peace

Malcolm McLaren died tonight.

He was 64.

You may not know who he was.

If you do know who he was you probably think he was an asshole.

And, yeah, he was.

But whether you knew who he was or not he made all of our lives better and he should be mourned.

This was the man who killed disco and saved rock and roll.

Do you like Nirvana? They would not have happened without him.

How about Coldplay or Joan Jett? Or The Red Hot Chile Peppers?

Seriously every genre of popular music that isn't straight up Britney Spears pop exists because of him.

Yes, he was a piece of shit, but he was our piece of shit.

UPDATE: JOHN LYDON ISSUED A STATEMENT ABOUT IT:

"Above all else he was an entertainer and i will miss him, and so should you" - Johnny Rotten"
