Hi, Montpellier people who have better French skills than I do (Hannah, this means you.)
For her birthday Rome Girl has requested I get a professional cleaner in to clean the apartment. Do you have any idea where to look for and how to hire a professional cleaner in France? If you or I found one, would you be able to speak to them in French for me so they don't think "Oh, a stupid American, we can overcharge him and rob him!"
Rome Girl mentioned today that she finds it odd that The Who lyric I like the most is "I don't need to fight to prove I'm right. I don't need to be forgiven."
"It's the opposite of the way you think," she said. "It's how you want to think, but it's not how you really think."
She also commented that she thinks the reason I like the mid 70s Who concert videos so much is because I'm looking at them through the eyes of history. That they become different texts when you know Keith Moon is going to die badly and you understand that Pete was on his way to wasting years of his life to hard core alcoholism and that Daltry won't really ever do anything other than The Who.
Which also makes me think that Townsend didn't really think this way either when he wrote that lyric. In some ways it sounds like the protest of a depressed alcoholic who feels like he needs to fight and who needs to be forgiven - even if he doesn't want to feel that way.
All in all, good stuff to talk to my shrink about tomorrow!
