Bathtub Cheese
Mexican immigrants in California are apparently making their own bootleg cheese.

This illegal cheese is causing a tuberculosis epidemic.

So, if you live in California - don't eat any underground cheese with your Mexican neighbors.

The tacos are tempting, but just not worth the risk.

I consider this a pretty good argument against eating pasteurized products, actually.

Because dairy products are pasteurized, dairy farmers are getting milk from diseased animals. Paseurization kills most of that bacteria, but it also kills all of the enzymes and a bunch of other good stuff!

I had my own dairy cow up until two years ago, and I ate unpaseurized dairy products for years. Eating unpasteurized dairy products doesn't give you TB; eating dairy products from diseased animals gives you TB.

It seems, then, that the pasteurization isn't the problem, it's the fact that dairy farmers are allowed to collect milk from diseased animals.

Well, that's mostly true! But the way the dairy industry works is that they don't really care about checking the animals *because* the milk will be pasteurized anyway.

I would consume unpasteurized dairy products, but only if they came from a cow I know to be healthy.
