What Was She Thinking?
Would you wear this to a movie premiere?

Yup. Me likes. But I'd probably be more likely to wear that to the races.

I feel bad for whoever was sitting behind her.

Dude, anything that draws attention from her face is a good thing. She should be wearing a bleeding armadillo on her head.

I'd fuck Shrek before I'd fuck her.

I agree; it's amazing how much media attention this woman gets considering she is what the French would call "une jolie laide" (fugly). On the other hand, it's nice to see someone so horrifically unattractive having such high self-esteem.

I do like the dress, however.

So the media should just report on actors that meet some arbitrary standard of pretty people? What's wrong with real people?

I don't understand why people get so passionate about expressing their dislike for her looks and this bandwagonesque rally around this of late - it not as if she's presenting herself as Miss Beauty or running for Miss Universe to be judged on her physical features. Looks are subjective sure, like them or don't - but given she is an actor, physical features are not her core business. The only difference I see between her and the majority of actors that seem to get press, is that she is actually humble, smart & switched on, and well spoken. And loves her fashion. All good in my book.

Good point(s). I'm not sure I agree with your statement

but given she is an actor, physical features are not her core business

because my sense is that physical features--attractive ones--are core business in [screen] acting in the United States.

Yup - completely agree. There is certainly too much judgement on core features/beauty in film/tv etc - particularly in the US. But doesn't mean we (the very collective we) should tacitly condone it by participating in it (bagging those that don't meet the beauty myth standard, actors getting plastic surgery...).

I have alot of respect for SJP in that she hasn't bowed to beauty expectation in her industry and gotten surgery for instance. She distinguishes herself more professionally as a result (whether you like her work or not), I think.

What's interesting is she first came to fame in the US because she lacked typically good looks. The entire premise of "Square Pegs" - to which she owes her career was that she was less pretty than the other girls in her school.

Ahhhhhhhhhh....duh, of course. Square pegs. The formative years. Had completely forgotten about that. How is that not good stock I tell you?

I was trying to think just before what I've actually seen her in (and I'm a non-googler, so put myself through the agony of trying to remember). Some LA in the name film, sex and city (of which I've seen some, I'm neither here nor there on it - just doesn't inspire a huge reaction). But yes - square pegs. And yes, the premise.

You just know I"m going to have the theme song in my head all night now.

I loved that song, but mostly I just loved the Waitresses.

Ah, the '80's....

This may be true, but I'm not so sure it *should* be true. We've had some pretty horrible actresses that made it big on their looks.

I agree; it is more the rule than the exception, sadly.

But reflecting upon the replies to my original comment, I'm heartened by SJP's success and popularity in this industry. It is good to have someone with less-than-mainstream-attractive physical features in the spotlight. She clearly feels good about herself and is a positive model for those who look towards celebrities to model themselves after.

I have nothing against her looks.

I just think it's ridiculous to wear a head of lettuce.

Out of curiosity, what is the difference between a hairpiece and a hat?

It's actually a fascinator - which is a fasionable headpiece basically, with less coverage than a hat.

I think the backlash against her looks started with New York gossip journalists thinking that she just got ahead by agreeing to be Mathew Broderick's beard, so that his career would be protected from the endless gay rumors.

i like it. it's over the top and interesting. she's an actress. it's all about costume. i'm sure she's not planning on wearing it to the fucking grocery store.

if lil' wayne can get a way with a mouthful of gold teeth and snoop can wear those ridiculous pimp suits then SJP should be able to wear a kooky hat once in a while.

My wife has actually intimated that I should take her to see this movie. I took my toddler to see a dr suess flick, but that was because he could not drive himself to the cinema.

I digress.

Ugly hat-

cannot stand the actresss-

SIC makes me want to stab ppl-

ummm I think that about covers it.

The movie won't be that bad.

Chris Noth is great in any project he works on.

And Kim Catrell and Kristin Davis are hot.
