Scary Job On Freelance Job Boards
Man, what do you think it would be like to work for these people?

Project Description:

INNOCENT AT THE ALTAR STORIES
True original stories wanted for a book about remaining INNOCENT until your wedding night.
.
Topics include:

(ALL RELIGIONS, ALL COUNTRIES).
Those who are still innocent, in every sense.
Those who are still innocent, in the main sense, but have indulged in other activities.
Adults who are still waiting and are innocent, even those over 40 who may have feelings of regret for waiting so long.
Those who have lost boyfriends or girlfriends by postponing romance.
Those who had romance and now regret it.
Those who had romance and now want to abstinent again, until marriage.
Those who lost it without their consent.
.
Those who caught AIDS.
.
Those who got pregnant while single.
Those who had the baby and kept it.
Gave the baby up for adoption.
Those who experienced a lack of offers for dates, after becoming a single parent.
Those who have had abortions.
.
Those who were called very bad names.
Those whose entire families have harshly judged them or rejected them. This includes social punishment through the mosque, synagogue, temple or church.

.
Those who are married, and were still innocent on their wedding day.
What color and style of wedding dress you wore.
How special that first night was.
If you’re comfortable, send photos of yourself when single, on your wedding day, and now, with your spouse and children.
.
Do you have special, in depth knowledge, of your religion’s scriptures on the topic of innocence? eg Hindu writings like the Bhagagvad Gita, the Koran or writings of the Shiite or Sunni leaders, the Torah or Talmud, Old or New Testaments? (If so, let’s also talk about that, as something additional.)

How do you manage to stay innocent?

WHAT DO YOU GET?

Mainly you get a chance to tell your story. Get those feelings off your chest. Warn or encourage or support others if needed. If you want it, you could have your picture in a book.

One story per category would be good, per religion. Religions could be broken down into basic categories eg Orthodox and Reform Jews, Shiite and Sunni Muslims, Catholic and Evangelical Christians, Polygamists and standard Mormons, Hindus, Buddhists.
.
Fifty dollars is the payment offered.
.
You need to sign a short form giving permission to use your story and photo to encourage innocence until marriage.
.
Each story should be, ideally, at least 25,000 words long. (Ten pages at 250 words per page). There is no maximum length, it can be longer.
If your story is much shorter, you could donate it for free, if you wish to.
.
EMOTIONS:
Include all of the emotions you experienced, in graphic detail, if you can.
Make readers cry, laugh, sing, smile, praise God, express anger or outrage, regret.
If you felt used or manipulated, how was this done to you?
Were you the user or manipulator, if so, how did you achieve your results?
Do you want revenge on him or them now? How did you get back at him? Was that a mistake?

WERE THESE OTHER EMOTIONS ALSO PART OF IT?
Curiosity
Desire to please the one you loved
Insecurity
Optimism (no harm will come of it)
Boredom, wanting a thrill
Feeling too happy to care
He broke dates with you, and aroused your emotions more
.
Anger
Pride
Shame
Desperation (what can I do, I’m no longer innocent? or I’m pregnant? How can I tell my parents?)
Passion for life, romance, your church
Love
Loneliness
Surprise
Envy of your friends who had romantic partners or lots of dates (maybe because they had bad reputations, people knew they were easily available for romance)
Sympathy
Disgust
Lust
Guilt
Fear

Confusion
Stupidity

It's the use of the word "innocent" that infuriates me - as though the other state possible is "guilty".

The entire post is insane - including how much they want to pay.

On that subject - I currently have a bee in my bonnet about a UK TV celebrity who is advertising for a "professional" agency to redesign his web site "pro bono". You know, just for the kudos.

This guy isn't some up and coming performer - he's currently the UK's best known magician.

In times of recession, it's always the creative industries that get gut punched.

Yes. The biggest advertising agencies in New York do this all the time. They ask for people to work full time for free for the "experience."

What sucks about it is that it creates a situation where wealthier people have a better chance of breaking into the industry.

Because to work full time for two years for free, you have to have independent money.

All creative industries everywhere often expect people to work for free. That's why jobs such as magazine writer, assistant editor etc. tend to be held by rich people who could afford to take those internships in the first place. Princeton University now has a program specifically designed to ameliorate that; if a kid who can't afford not to make money gets a job like that, they will pay the salary themselves. That's the only way my brother was able to get the clips necessary to become a full-time magazine writer.

I've been writing for magazines for 12 years, and have never worked for free once. It must be a US thing. Of course, we have active unions to intervene on our behalf.

I remember when I told Sam at Nerve my usual fee he seemed rather shocked.

Writing fees vary so much.

When I bid on a job, I can see how much other people are bidding.

It takes me a day to write a sales letter, for which my fee is $350.

There are people out there offering to do it for $25.

Yet, I still get hired.

Yes, but you do freelance, am I right? (I don't mean that in a disparaging way; I'm just saying its a different situation.) He's a paid staff writer for a single magazine, with a nice yearly salary, vacations, and benefits (hard for freelancers in U.S. to come by as I'm sure you know).

Paid vacations would be nice...

My start in this career was very much tied to being in the right place and time. I had expertise in a specific area (from my academic background) that very few other writers could match in the mid-90s. So, I had the chance to build up a reputation while the knowledge and expertise I had were in short supply.

There's much more competition now and if I was 26 again, starting on the same career path, it's possible that I'd have to take a very different approach. Or, more likely, stay in academia.

I agree about their method of payment.

It's only in creative work that the "employer" tries to get away with getting people to work for nothing--and then expects to be thanked for giving the writer/artist the "opportunity."

Yeah, whenever a dude asks me if I want to work for free, I respond "If I wanted to do that I'd join the Peace Corps."

It's really extreme in photography. It's annoying how many amateur photographers are excited to have their photography published at all, and think that it will help them get photography careers.

From what I've read, the only thing that will help you make money as a photographer (other than hard work and a little talent) is to refuse to work for free. No one who has the decency to *pay* photographers will be impressed that you've been published somewhere. The people who pay either like your photos, and think you're worth their time and money, or they don't.

I think they're using the word "innocent" as an antonym to "experienced," not as an an antonym to "guilty"...As such, I actually kind of like the usage, better than if they used "virgin," since that word has the problem of being ambiguous, as to whether it refers to all sexual activity, or just to PIV intercourse.

They say they want stories about remaining "innocent"... but also that they want stories about things that were patently NOT "innocent" (and btw, if "innocent" here means free from a particular sin, then YES, people who aren't free from it ARE guilty. That's just...true). I think it would be loads of fun to send in a story about how relieved the person was about not being pregnant anymore after an abortion. Or how much fun t was to be "the manipulator". I guess they probably wouldn't pay for it though.

True for whom?

Having been raised in an ultra-conservative, southern Baptist household, this one gave me the heebies because it made my memories come to life for a minute.
