I'll Never Understand My Step Mom
Since my brother graduated from Notre Dame last May, my stepmom has been bitching about him finding a "real job."

The background on this is he wanted to bartend in Madrid for a year but was told he'd get cut out of the will if he did so. In response he's been living at home and bartending on weekends.

So, now he's decided he wants to be a high school teacher.

"That's not a real job," she told him. "Too many Calendars have been teachers."

I just don't get it. I know that she wants him to be a banker or a stock trader or something of that scale - but you can't make someone want that life.

Fuck, America needs smart high school teachers. It's a fucking noble profession.

I'm unsure how she thinks she'll accomplish her goals or what the point of her goals are. Does she really want him to make a lot of money but be miserable?

It seems like he's *got* to somehow get away from being under her influence. I don't think any good can come from depending on someone who's so dead-set on status at the expense of *everything* more important.

Yes.

Now you see why I left the country.

Honestly, i think she's right. I've come to the conclusion that the only thing that matters in this country is making money.

I totally wish I had just gotten a job on Wall Street when i was 20.

My younger brother is going through a somewhat similar brouha with my parents, though he hasn't graduated yet. How they expect a 20-year-old male to know what he wants to do with his life is beyond my understanding. They also want to dictate what he does. It is this kind of thing that makes me second-guess having children to begin with.

How do people figure they're going to dictate what someone does with their lives is beyond me. Plus I can't stand dealing with whining and complaining, hence I didn't have children.
