"How did you feel after that nightmare," my shrink, who comes from New England, asked me.

"I felt really skeeved," I said.

"What," she asked. "What does 'skeeved' mean?"

At which point I realized that "skeeved" and "skeeved out" may be New Jersey regionalisms.

I tried to find a synonym for her but it turns out that "sketched out" is also slang unknown to her Bennington roots. (And "sketched out" isn't exactly the same thing anyway.)

At which point I was at a loss.

How the hell do you explain being skeeved out to someone who didn't grow up being skeeved?

It's an enigma.
